Some things I once took seriously
Now seem strange and even odd
Like the time I stood in line
And vainly tried to contact God
And when a need for seeming right
Before the sight of others
Held me in it’s grip
Just there right behind your eyes
Weren’t you the one that helped me slip
People don’t change
Still the light comes in
The darkness fades into dawn
Shadows will be overcome
Sun still shines
Even down upon a London slum
Shall I go around the world?
I’m standing at the harbour
Waiting for the wind to blow
One destination
Or no hope of a resting place
Heaven is your face
Once there came a moment
Charged with light and fear
The ancients and the wise
And paradise
Seemed so very near
Now that’s a point in history
And with each passing year
My only true companion
Is that question
What am I doing here?
People don’t change
Still the light comes in
The darkness fades into dawn
Shadows will be overcome
Sun still shines
Even down upon a London slum
Shall I go around the world?
I’m standing at the harbour
Waiting for the wind to blow
One destination
Or no hope of a resting place
Heaven is your face
Beneath a plastic coloured windmill
Prayer flags flap in the wind
All I know about what drives me
Is it comes from somewhere deep within
The doors swing open
Still I only see one journey to begin
And though the odds are stacked against me
Maybe I was born to win
People don’t change
Still the light comes in
The darkness fades into dawn
Shadows will be overcome
Sun still shines
Even down upon a London slum
Shall I go around the world?
I’m standing at the harbour
Waiting for the wind to blow
One destination
Or no hope of a resting place
Heaven is your face
